Community Gardens

Joining a community garden could be an excellent resource for the Vansteader.  Possible benefits include:
  • A place to park during the day... a few steps from your own garden plot
  • Growing your own food
  • Selling your own produce at a local market
  • Making friends
  • Creating a tie to the community
  • Possible potable water (maybe other amenities)
  • Shared tools are common
Here you can locate a community garden near you.  This database is not all inclusive; you may need to do an internet search to locate other community gardens in your area:

The community gardens I've looked at are approximately $25 for the entire growing year.

  1. I had no idea. There are 4 in our Indianapolis area. I'm not sure, with my taking care of my brother, if we would have time for this, but what a great idea. Thanks for sharing and I will be checking in on you for progress in this...

  2. absolutely brilliant idea, heidi, this blog. i am very excited to see where you go with this. very inspiring!

  3. Thank you both for your support and kind words. I *needed* to write this blog as an outlet, before Taj ends up going to the chickens. lol

  4. hate to tell ya, numees, but i've seen photographic proof that taj has been overrun already.....
